Michael Maguire

Michael Maguire is perhaps best known to theater goers for his portrayal of Enjolras in the original Broadway company of ‘Les Miserables’ for which he won the Tony Award, Drama Desk Award, Theater World Award and was featured on the cover of Newsweek. He repeated that performance at the Royal Albert Hall in London as a member of the “Dream Cast” celebrating the 10th anniversary of Les Miz, an event that has been broadcast numerous times on PBS and around the world. At the New York City Opera he starred as Count Carl Magnus in ‘A Little Night Music’ as well as the subsequent PBS broadcast of the show. He also starred in “Strike Up the Band” opposite Charles Nelson Reilly for the Reprise series in Los Angeles.

As a concert soloist Michael has sung extensively, often making numerous appearances, with over 250 different symphony orchestras around the world including the Cleveland, Minnesota, Kansas City, St. Louis, Buffalo, San Diego, Columbus, Seattle, Utah and National Symphonies. In May 2006, Michael performed as a guest soloist with the Hong Kong Philharmonic.  Michael is renowned not only for his power and versatility as a Broadway singer but has also become one of the most pre-eminent Big Band singers in the country.  He has starred nationally in musicals including Carousel, Brigadoon, Kismet, Annie Get Your Gun, Side by Side, 110 in the Shade and Showboat. His most recent Los Angeles performance was at the Cinegrill where he performed his show, “Michael Maguire in Concert” to rave reviews. He teamed up with fellow Tony Award winner Debbie Gravitte to create their critically acclaimed show ‘Direct from Broadway’ which debuted at the Kennedy Center in Washington and has toured the US.

His solo CD, with Skitch Henderson and the New York Pops, has sold over 300,000 copies. He recently recorded three CDs of Jerome Kern music at the Abbey Road Studio in London conducted by John McGlinn. In film he starred in the independent feature ‘Go Fish’. Other film credits include, ‘Where the Day Takes You’, ‘Cadillac’ and ‘Deep End of the Ocean’. On television he has guest starred on ‘Quantum Leap’, ‘Nowhere Man’, ‘Hearts Afire’ and ‘Star Trek-Voyager’. In addition to having been a successful broker on Wall Street, he is a graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory and the University of Michigan School Of Music at Ann Arbor.
